NGC 253 - The Silver Coin Galaxy

Above: 3x240 second exposures stacked and image electronically improved.

Above: Same image as above except with no image processing.

The 'Silver Coin' galaxy found in the Constellation of Sculptor. This galaxy is a spiral galaxy seen almost edge-on. The galaxy has a magnitude of about 8.0 so its not real faint at all, it's about 1,500 times fainter than you can see with the naked eye. Being one of the dustiest galaxies known, you can see a lot of dark dust lanes in the images, it's distance is about 10 million light years.
