Apennines Mountain Range - The Moon

The largest mountain range on the Moon is seen here Spanning more than 600km in length, the Apennines mount range is the largest on the lunar surface.

This enormous mountains stand upto 5km tall and easily cast their own shadows.

The large crater at lower right is called Archimedes, it's 83km wide with walls that are 2km tall.

For the keen eyed there and many more features, like the prominent rille, just right of centre image. A rille is a lunar feature that appears to use on Earth like an empty river bed.

To the right and above the rille are two large mountains. The right-most mountain casts a large distinct shadow onto the lunar surface. Notice that in the shadow of this mountain, is a splinter of light, which I find quite curious as to where the light is coming from or what the splinter of light is displaying.
