| Welcome to the latest newsletter from SKYLab Astronomy Software. Dominating this newsletter is the news surrounding the latest release of software - STAR Atlas:PRO Version 4. This new version is a major improvement over prior versions and includes many new features. Version 4 is available as a free upgrade and following you will find how to download and install the upgrade. Perhaps one of the most noted features in this new version is ASCOM Compliant Telescope control which provides STAR Atlas:PRO with a larger range of telescope drivers, including Meade and Celestron Telescopes. It should be noted that the ASCOM Telescope drivers are distributed freely by the ASCOM Standards Organisation (http://www.ascom-standards.org), accordingly their telescope driver software must be downloaded and installed separately from STAR Atlas:PRO. Once you have the ASCOM drivers installed on your computer, STAR Atlas:PRO will detect the drivers and allow you to select the ASCOM Telescope Driver of choice. STAR Atlas:PRO retains it's own built-in telescope drivers for Meade LX200, Autostar, Sky Commander, Argo Navis and now includes support for the Meade LX200 16" telescope. Other notable features include the new AUTO mode that permits STAR Atlas:PRO to decide which astronomical objects too display and what Limiting Magnitude to apply, depending on your chart's current Field of View. Upon installation of the Version 4.0 Upgrade this mode is selected by default. However, STAR Atlas:PRO retains the "Field of View" and "Manual" methods for selection of catalogue objects. Catalogue selection options can be accessed from the new CATALOG PREFS button on STAR Atlas:PRO's main command toolbar. There is a re-organisation of STAR Atlas:PRO's main command toolbar and many new keyboard commands to access each function. Supporting documentation is available from the SKYLab Web Site that lists and describes each keyboard command. If you have an earlier version installed then you will need to install your upgrades in sequence as explained here http://www.skylab.com.au/upgrade.html#readme before attempting to install the latest upgrade.
